The Society of Medical Doctors (SMD) is a professional organisation of medical doctors in Malawi, which exists with the aim of providing a vehicle through which medical doctors can support the government and other players in their efforts to improve the delivery of health care in Malawi. SMD provides a platform where doctors can lobby and advocate for better health care system on behalf of Malawians.

SMD wishes to recruit a qualified medical doctor on part time basis for a one year renewable contract, to coordinate among others, Continued Professional Development (CPD) Meetings around the country, with great focus on Maternal and Neonatal Health. The suitable candidate will be expected to operate from within Lilongwe to work at least two days a week at the SMD Secretariat.

The Successful Medical Officer will work together with the Secretariat, reporting to the president or his vice or executive secretary, if he is not around

Job description

  • Organize and coordinate CPD Meetings

  • Establish and coordinate Regional CPD Committees

  • Writing funding proposals

  • Ensuring that all technical matters within SMD mandate, affecting its members are relayed to the SMD Executive and are dealt with, timely

  • Prepare and submit periodical reports within deadlines

Desired qualifications and experience;

  • Minimum of MBBS

  • Registered with Medical Council of Malawi

  • At least 2 years job experience

  • Skills in proposal writing

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Team spirit

  • Those with experience in Maternal and Neonatal Health will have added advantage
