KIND GESTURE—TNM donation

Telecommunications company TNM on Saturday donated medical items worth K100 million to Society of Medical Doctors (SMD) to support over 1,000 doctors as they provide medical care to Covid-19 patients.

The medical supplies include surgical gloves, goggles, patient monitors and drugs.

The funds also cover the cost of airtime and data for doctors handling Covid-19 cases and frontline staff for three months.

TNM Chief Channels Officer Phyllis Manguluti said the company is committed to supporting efforts employed in dealing with the pandemic.

“This pandemic has affected all of us and we thought we should be a responsible corporate citizen and make this donation because everyone is affected. Our stakeholders, our customers and our business partners are all affected,” she said.

SMD President Victor Mithi hailed TNM for the donation, saying medical personnel needed support as cases of Covid-19 continue to rise in the country.

“We expect a huge impact from the donation but at the moment the situation is bad. We must thank the company for the kind gesture and others should follow suit for us to win this battle,” he said.

Nine hundred and fifteen healthcare workers have been affected by the virus, of which eight have died.
